Conergy secures long-term supply of raw materials for Frankfurt (Oder) with a volume of US $7-8billion

Hamburg-based Conergy AG, Europe’s largest solar systems provider, is cooperating with a strategic partner in the ongoing boom market for solar energy and has secured long-term supplies of wafers, a component of solar cells. The company reached an agreement on Thursday with wafer manufacturer MEMC Electronic Materials, headquartered in Missouri USA, for the supply of wafers valued between US$ 7 and 8 billion up to 2018.

ABB wind products ride the storm in China’s largest wind farm

ZURICH, Switzerland -- China’s largest wind farm - equipped with power products from ABB - passed the test of storm-force winds on the East coast of China last month with flying colors. Built by the Jiangsu Longyuang Wind Power Co., the farm's turbines are designed to deal with 90 km/h gales, so at 50 km/h, winds brought by typhoon Wipha did no more than boost productivity.

Alstom takes the initiative on CO2 capture technologies and global warming challenge

LEVALLOIS-PERRET CEDEX, FRANCE -- Alstom has been carrying out an intensive research and development programme for the past years to meet the technological and economic challenges of capturing the CO2 created in fossil-fuel-based electricity production. As early as 2014, the company will be able to offer fossil-fuel-based power plants that respect the environmental constraints linked with climate change. Several technologies will be tested in six pilot projects already under way in Germany, the US, Norway, Sweden and France. Other projects are being studied and will be announced shortly.

Toshiba Seeks U.S. Approval for Micro Reactor for Rural Power

TOKYO, JAPAN --
Toshiba Corp., Japan's biggest maker of nuclear power plants, will start talks this month with a U.S. regulator to approve a micro reactor targeted at remote areas such as Galena on Alaska's Yukon River. The company will hold the first meeting on Oct. 23 to brief the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission on safety and other features of the new 4S reactor, seeking design certification, the U.S. regulator said on its Web site. The license is required to sell and build the plant in the U.S.

aleo solar enters into agreement with solar cell manufacturer China Sunergy

aleo solar AG has entered into a supply agreement with Chinese solar cell manufacturer China Sunergy Co. Ltd. (Nasdaq: CSUN) for at least 30 megawatts by 2008. The price for the first 10 megawatts to be delivered in the first half of 2008 has already been agreed.

Uranium miners see output rising but market tight

LONDON -- Uranium miners said on Thursday they were raising output in a bid to meet rampant global demand sparked by interest in atomic energy, but prices are expected to remain strong due to tight markets. Australian uranium miner Paladin Resources Ltd (PDN.AX) said it expected to produce 900,000 pounds of uranium in 2007, adding that output could reach 2.6 million pounds in 2008 and 3.5 million pounds in 2009.

China to have first offshore wind power station

BEIJING, CHINA --
The China National Offshore Oil Corp. (CNOOC) would complete the construction of a wind power station some 60 km offshore, which would be first of its kind in the country, said general manager Fu Chengyu in Beijing on Wednesday. The wind power station would have an installed capacity of 1,500 kw and is located in the Bohai Bay, said Fu, a delegate to the17th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC), on the sidelines of the event.
